aw crap now the whole fedoverse can see the edge of my "slightly shameful" bookshelf.

...shelves.

...look, all the Knuth is on the shelf below it, okay?

@icefox oh my shelves are even more shameful, heh

when they existed, two out of four were manga

@ninjawedding I never really had the inclination and finances for manga coincide. I just borrowed it from a friend.

In terms of ownership, I got about 5 books into Ranma 1/2 and 6 into Inu-Yasha before I got a bit soured on the genre.

@icefox a big chunk of my collection is CLAMP stuff: Rayearth, RG Veda, xxxHolic, artbooks. a bunch of it came from discount bookstores when I was studying abroad - I still tell myself I’ll use the manga to practice reading Japanese

@ninjawedding That's a fantastic excuse! Though the only one I really am familiar with is Rayearth. I played the SNES game (ahem, ROM) at a formative age and was reasonably traumatized.

@icefox is it that bad? :P I’ve only heard stories about the game, haven’t played it

@ninjawedding From what recall it was half-decent, as a SNES JRPG, though not super original.

But the ending was a bit, ah, traumatic. And entirely unexpected. So.

awavauatush @ninjawedding
@icefox oh yeah, the manga and anime do the same last-minute whiplash. it definitely comes out of nowhere

Rayearth II starts about as dark and stays that way for a while
@icefox yeah! at this point I’m sure it’s on a bunch of manga sites

The artwork is g o r g e o u s, too

@ninjawedding good artwork is always a nice bonus! I'll have to look it up.
